Who are we?

We are a network of individual Catholic schools and Multi Academy Trusts, predominantly in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portsmouth, but also including the Archdiocese of Birmingham and, with the recent acquisition of our first International School Affiliate, from the Diocese of Košice, Slovakia. Together, we are working in partnership, and with St Mary’s University, to make our schools even better and to contribute to the common good. Koinonia -a word reflecting fellowship – describes not who we are, but, rather, how we work and what we try to do, together. Collaboration through:

  • developing our staff
  • sharing school improvement approaches
  • strengthening our ethos as a distinctively Catholic school
  • making our network the best place to train, and work, as a teacher or a member of our support staff
  • sharing best practice from the schools, and from the best scholarship and practice across the globe

As a way of working, we have no legal identity ourselves and are proud to include maintained and independent Catholic schools, as well as Catholic Multi Academy Trusts.

Mission Statement

Koinonia is not meant to be a geographically distinct ‘club’, but instead reflects a specific approach to collaborative working among schools and other educational settings.

As a Catholic community of schools, this work is to help deliver the vision of the Bishop and support the educational work of our Dioceses and religious orders.

Our work, through collaboration and respect for the individual ethos and characteristics of our partner schools, is to ensure that we deliver the best possible education for our children and young people, mindful of our role in educating the whole person and the unique vocation to which our pupils and staff are called. Our further intention is to make our schools the best places possible in which to work and develop as practitioners, whether as teachers, or in a supportive role. In so doing, we wish to promote the common good for the communities in which our schools are based, to be places which reflect our core belief as Catholic communities and, in collaboration with our strategic university partner, become places of meaningful research for the Church and the wider educational community.
